Health Benefits of Red Wine

Red Wine is good for your heart

Red wine contains something we know as resveratrol. This is a powerful compound that can not only act as an antioxidant, but also as a protector to your heart and arteries against the effects of saturated fat in our diet. Drinking a glass or two of red wine per day could prove beneficial in preventing you from cardiovascular disease, as well as improves your immune system against certain things thrown at it.

Red wine contains antioxidants

In addition to resveratrol, red wine contains a number of other antioxidants, which can not only slow the signs of aging, but can also help prevent a range of illness’ including type 2 diabetes. Many of the diseases commonly found in elderly people can be prevented, such as osteoporosis.

Red wine helps to prevent cancer

Mounting evidence is suggesting that red wine consumption in moderation could actually help prevent cancer. The many antioxidants found in red wine could prove to be enough to help prevent oxidative damage responsible for the process of aging and for many degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimers, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Guercetin, one of many antioxidants in red wine may help prevent lung cancer. Research has lead people to believe that the property called resveratrol could show signs of killing cancerous cells, but not enough evidence has been shown to back this theory up.

Red wine prevents tooth decay

Red wine, even non alcoholic red wine hardens the enamel found on our teeth. This helps fight and prevent tooth decay, a popular problem found in many people. Hardened enamel is more resistant to Streptoccus mutans, the bacteria that lives on your teeth and is responsible for tooth decay. The polyphenols in red wine can also prevent gum disease and help treat it by reducing inflammation in the gums.

Drinking red wine can help you sleep

New research shows that red wine can help you sleep. The ingredient melatonin regulates the body clock, so drinking a glass before bed may help you get a better night’s sleep. Melatonin is also another antioxidant of red wine, so can help with anti-aging and cancer preventative properties. Although many of the potential good effects from resveratrol may have a slight benefit, scientists have said that research and development of the active ingredients is still underway, so drinking red wine just for this resveratrol is not recommended. Scientists think that currently, you would have to drink several litres of wine per day to gain any good effect.
